Based on the novel you have read, describe one main character in the story. Support your answer with  close references to the text.

  In Step by Wicked Step by Anne Fine, Claudia is one character who stands out by her matured and sensible behaviour. She is seen as rational and good natured too.  She is sober in her outlook of things and knows when things are not right with her parents.

  Claudia notices how her parents react with each other. She feel hurt that her father has left her mother and feels rejected when her father spends time with Stella, and other woman in his life. But she is able to appreciate the fact that although Stella may not be beautiful, she is friendly and caring. She also tries not to hurt her mother by being too friendly with her father for she knows that her mother too would then feel betrayed by her behaviour. She also avoids hurting her mother by not accepting her father's new girlfriend initially. She worries for her mother's well-being and thinks that if she were nice to Stella, it would be disloyal to her mother. So, Claudia is a sober person who thinkgs before she acts and is able to see things in a balanced manner.

  Claudia is also able to see that Stella is nervious about meeting her  father's friends. During the party she realises that no one really talks to Stella. She realises that they being rude to her and she decides to act and is gracious to Stella. This changes the attitude of the others and everyone begins to  talk to Stella in a friendlier manner. Claudia and Stella become friends.
