Dear Abang Ngah,
How are you, Abah, Mak, Kak Long and the others? I hope you are fine.
I miss everyone at home. This is my first time away from home on my own and I'm really feeling homesick. Sometimes, when I see some of them crying quietly, I begin to cry too. However, we have learnt to comfort each other and laugh a little at our homesickness. It's comforting that we have a class teacher who understands we miss home and she would ask us how we feel and buy for us some goodies that we miss from home. Well, at the end of the academic year, we might look back and laugh at our childish behavior. With time, we would al settle in and would be too busy to miss home.
I am sure you must be wondering about my school. It is a big school with sprawling grounds. The school is well equipped with the latest technology and it has a multipurpose hall, an auditorium and 3 computer rooms. There are about 800 students. We all stay in the hostel which is next to the school. There is a covered walkway connecting the school to the hostel grounds so, rain or shine, we can just walk to school. There is no fear of any of us being later and woe betide us, if we play truant. Where are we to hide and have fun? Nowhere!
My first week in school Orientation Week, very like the one I had when I first entered Primary School. The senior students had come up with ice-breakers to acquaint us with the rules and regulations, the school layout, the teachers and the school setup. There were some serious moments as well as some fun times.
It has been a month since I reported and I must assure you that the majority of the students are pretty serious about their studies. They laugh a lot, play a lot, but they take their studies seriously. When it's test time or when examinations are around the corner, almost all the students are glued to their books. Group studying is the norm here and I see senior students having a bussy system with their juniors. I have joined a study group which is helmed by a senior student. I am progressing well and adapting well to the new environment.
Please tell Abah and Mak that I miss them very much. Please tell them not to worry because I can look after myself. Please write soon to tell me all that has been happening at home. I can't wait for news from home.
Bye and take care.
Your loving sister,
Maisara
